Platform & Deployment
The same promises, on all 22 products
This page exists so the product pages do not have to repeat themselves. Everything here is true of every S-Tech software product, not of a premium edition.
- 22
- Software products, all on this platform
- 19
- Can run on your own server
- 12
- Run with no internet at all
Three deployment models
Where the software actually runs
This is the decision that matters most, and it is usually decided by your data policy and your network — not by budget.
Cloud
We host it. Nothing to install, nothing to patch, live within days of the data being ready.
- Fastest to start — days rather than weeks
- No server, no IT team needed
- Automatic updates and daily backups
- Access from any location or branch
Worth knowing: Needs a reliable internet connection at every site that uses it.
Self-hosted
The application and database sit on your server, inside your building, under your control.
- The database never leaves your premises
- Meets data-residency policies in healthcare, government and defence
- No dependence on our infrastructure staying up
- You own the backups and the retention policy
Worth knowing: You need a server and someone to look after it — or an AMC with us to do it.
Fully offline
Self-hosted, plus designed so that no internet connection is ever required for the system to work.
- Works on a LAN with no internet at all
- Readers buffer locally and forward when the network returns
- Android handhelds hold their work list and sync later
- Optional one-way sync to cloud for head-office reporting
Worth knowing: Features that need the outside world — SMS, WhatsApp, payment gateways — queue until a link exists.
Runs anywhere
Your team uses the machine it already has
Web for most people, desktop where the software has to talk to local hardware, Android for anything that moves. Nobody has to buy a new computer to use our software.
- Web browser
- Windows
- macOS
- Linux
- Ubuntu
- Unix
- Android
- iOS (client apps)
Web
Server-rendered so it is fast on a modest office PC and on a poor connection.
Desktop
Windows, macOS and Linux builds for stations that drive readers, printers, scales and analyzers directly.
Android
Runs on rugged UHF handhelds and on ordinary phones, offline-capable with background sync.
Client apps
Parent, resident and field apps on Android and iOS, published under your brand.
Nine promises
What every product carries
Written out in full here, so the product pages can stay about the product.
RFID-first
Every product is built around RFID speed and modern technology from the start, not bolted on afterwards.
Any RFID hardware
Ready to configure with any make of RFID hardware. Barcode, QR code and traditional manual methods work by default.
Runs anywhere
Web, Windows, macOS, Linux, Ubuntu, Unix and Android. Your team uses the machine it already has.
Online or offline
Works fully online in the cloud, or fully offline on a local server, and syncs when a connection returns.
Self-hosted option
Host it on your own server and keep the data inside your building. No dependence on our infrastructure.
White-label
Available under your own brand — logo, colours, product name and domain.
Customisable
Every deployment is unique. Modules, fields, forms, reports and workflows are changed to fit your process.
Performance & reliability
Built for speed and uptime under real load, on real hardware, in places with unreliable power and network.
Secure by design
Encrypted data, role-based access, full audit trail and scheduled backups. You own the data.
Security & data ownership
Specific claims, not round numbers
We could write "100% secure". It would invite a technical buyer to challenge it, and they would be right to. Here is what is actually true.
Encryption
TLS in transit on every connection. Encryption at rest where the deployment platform supports it, including Atlas and standard Linux disk encryption on self-hosted servers.
Role-based access
Permissions per module and per action. A store clerk cannot open payroll, and a viewer cannot write. Roles are configured per deployment, not fixed by us.
Full audit trail
Every create, update and delete is recorded with the user, the timestamp and what changed. Nothing important is edited without a trace.
You own the data
Self-hosted keeps the database in your building. On cloud, the data is yours and exportable in full at any time. No lock-in clause exists in our contracts.
Tested backups
Scheduled backups with a retention policy you set, and a restore tested during commissioning. An untested backup is not a backup.
Hardened endpoints
Input validated on the server, rate limiting on public endpoints, security headers, and dependency patching. Admin routes are blocked from search engines and can be restricted by network.
Certificates, registrations and the compliance statements procurement teams ask for are on the certifications page.
Hardware freedom
Any make of RFID hardware, and barcode too
We integrate at protocol level rather than through one vendor's cloud. That is why our software works with readers we did not sell you.
- LLRP, vendor SDKs, serial and TCP — whichever the device actually exposes
- Readers from different manufacturers on the same deployment, through one driver layer
- Barcode, QR and manual entry work everywhere by default, not as a fallback mode
- Biometric terminals, barriers, scales, printers and analyzers on the same record
- A replacement device later means one new driver, not a rewrite
Why this matters commercially
Software that only works with one brand of reader turns every future hardware purchase into a single-supplier negotiation. Over a five-year deployment that costs far more than the software did.
Most of our clients do buy their hardware from us, because then the read rates are our responsibility end to end. But that should be your choice each time, not a constraint built into the software.
Questions
Deployment questions
What does "fully offline" actually mean?
The application and the database run on a server inside your building. Everything works on your local network with no internet connection at all. Readers buffer their reads and forward them when the network returns; Android handhelds hold their work list on the device and sync when back in range. It is not a reduced offline mode — it is the whole system, running locally.
If we self-host, who owns the data?
You do, completely. The database sits on your hardware in your building. We have no access unless you give it to us for support. There is no lock-in clause and you can export everything at any time.
Can we start on cloud and move to our own server later?
Yes. It is the same software, so a migration is a data move rather than a reimplementation. Plenty of clients start on cloud to get going quickly and move in-house once their IT team is ready.
Does white-label mean just a logo change?
No. The application UI, login screen, colours, product name, documents, reports, emails, SMS templates, installers and mobile app store listings all carry your brand. Your customers do not see ours anywhere.
What happens when a new version is released?
Cloud deployments are updated by us on a schedule agreed with you. Self-hosted deployments get a versioned release and an upgrade window; we do the upgrade under an annual maintenance contract, or hand you the package if your IT team prefers to run it.
Are you locked to particular RFID hardware?
No, and neither are you. We integrate at protocol level — LLRP, vendor SDKs, serial and TCP — so any make of reader can be configured. That is deliberate: it means you buy hardware on price and availability rather than because your software demands one brand.
What about backups?
Cloud deployments have automated daily backups with point-in-time recovery, plus object versioning on media. Self-hosted deployments are set up with a scheduled backup to a location you choose, and we test the restore during commissioning — an untested backup is not a backup.
How is access controlled inside the software?
Role-based, down to the module and the action. Every write is recorded in an audit trail with the user, the time and what changed. Session policy, password rules and where applicable two-factor are configurable per deployment.
Which deployment is right for you?
Tell us about your sites, your network and your data policy, and we will tell you which model fits — including when cloud is the sensible answer and self-hosting would just be expense.
