Laundry & Linen Management
Every piece of linen counted in and out of every wash, per department and per customer.
- 300+
- Items counted in one trolley pass
- 200+
- Wash cycles per tag
- Per item
- Loss traced to a floor or customer
Linen is bought in thousands and counted by hand, which means it is not really counted at all. A washable RFID tag sewn into each item, read by a tunnel as a trolley passes, makes counting free — and once counting is free, loss becomes visible and then becomes small.
The problem today
What it looks like before
If two or three of these describe your operation, this solution is worth a conversation. If none of them do, it probably is not.
What we hear
Counting linen by hand at collection and delivery is slow, unpleasant and inaccurate.
Disputes between the laundry and the department come down to two manual counts and no evidence.
Nobody tracks wash cycles per item, so linen is replaced on feel rather than at end of life.
Loss disappears into the purchase budget instead of being traced to a floor or a customer.
How it works
Step by step, on site
Not an architecture diagram — the actual sequence of what happens to a physical thing.
- 1
Tag the linen
A washable UHF tag is sewn into a seam or heat-sealed on, rated for 200 or more industrial wash and press cycles.
- 2
Count at collection
A loaded trolley passes a tunnel reader and every piece is counted and attributed to its owner in one pass.
- 3
Track the wash
Batch, machine and programme are recorded, and each item's wash count increments automatically.
- 4
Count at delivery
Clean linen is counted out and packed per department or customer, and the delivery note comes from the actual read.
- 5
Manage the life
Items past their wash-count threshold appear on a retirement list, and the replacement forecast goes to purchasing.

What changes
Results and benefits
Figures come from real deployments. They depend on site conditions, which is why we commit to numbers for your site only after a trial.
- 300+
- Items counted in one trolley pass
- 200+
- Wash cycles per tag
- Per item
- Loss traced to a floor or customer
- Counting becomes automatic, so it happens at every stage instead of never.
- Disputes end because both sides read the same count.
- Replacement becomes a scheduled decision based on actual wash cycles.
- Loss is attributed, which is the only thing that makes it reduce.
Example deployment
What one site looked like
Client names are withheld until we have written permission to publish them.
Hotel group, 3 properties on one central laundry
Tags in all room and F&B linen, a tunnel reader at the central laundry's soiled intake and another at clean dispatch. Per-property counts replaced estimated weights for billing. Linen loss became a number the housekeeping managers could see per floor, and it fell in the first two quarters.
Implementation & support
How the project actually runs
Including the parts that take the longest and the parts you have to own rather than us.
- 1
Tag trial
Tag type tested against your actual wash temperature, chemicals and press pressure before any bulk order.
- 2
Tag insertion
Tags sewn or sealed into existing linen in batches, and new purchases specified with the tag already fitted.
- 3
Tunnel installation
A tunnel reader sized to your trolleys at the soiled intake and at clean dispatch, shielded so it reads only what is inside.
- 4
Owner setup
Departments, floors, properties or external customers configured with their own linen pools and contract terms.
- 5
Billing changeover
Billing moved from estimated weight to counted pieces once both sides agree the counts are right.
Questions
Before you commit
Does the tag bother a guest or a patient?
It is inside a seam or a hem pocket and is not noticeable in use. Tags are chosen thin and flexible for exactly this reason.
What read rate does a tunnel achieve?
Above 99% on a correctly commissioned tunnel with tested tags and proper shielding. Poor results almost always come from an unshielded enclosure or an untested tag.
Can we tag linen we already own?
Yes. Existing linen is retro-tagged in batches, and new purchases are specified with the tag already fitted by the supplier, which is cheaper.
