From a two-day annual stock-take to a twenty-minute nightly count
A single-showroom jeweller with 9,400 pieces replaced its twice-yearly manual count with a daily RFID count that runs at closing time.
- 20 min
- Nightly full-showroom count
- 2 days → 0
- Showroom closure for stock-take
- Same day
- Discrepancies detected
The problem
Where they started
Physical stock-take closed the showroom for two days and happened twice a year. Between counts there was no way to know whether a piece was missing, and by the time a discrepancy was found the trail was cold. Pieces sent out on approval and to karigars were tracked on paper slips.
What was deployed
The solution
Every piece was tagged with a jewellery loop tag over two weeks around trading hours, with weight, purity, design and cost captured at the same time. A pocket reader was supplied for tray counting, a door reader for items leaving on approval or to a karigar, and the Jewellery ERP for billing, karigar management and accounts.
“The count used to be something we dreaded twice a year. Now it happens every night and nobody thinks about it.”
