Offline RFID timing for a 3.2 km physical test
Three standalone readers timed a unit physical test at a venue with no network, and produced unit-wise pass and fail sheets the same morning.
- No network
- Fully offline operation
- Same morning
- Unit result sheets delivered
- Reusable
- Card tags, not disposable chips
The problem
Where they started
The unit physical test was timed with stopwatches and recorders, which could not handle a mass start and produced results that were argued about afterwards. The venue had no reliable network, ruling out any cloud-based timing system.
What was deployed
The solution
Three offline RFID readers at the start, turnaround and finish, each with its own clock and local storage. Reusable service ID card tags rather than disposable bib chips, since the same test is run repeatedly. A desktop collation application merged the reads on a common clock and produced results grouped by unit and company with pass or fail against the standard time.
